How much is a car service?
So, how much is a car service? This is a brilliant question that we get asked a lot and I love answering it because there isn't really a one size fits all answer here. There's quite a few variables, which I'll just talk you through each one, individually. The first one is that it depends on the type of service you require, which leads into, really, what the manufacturer recommendations are. And I have covered this off on another question, the different types of services. There's a minor, a major, and an inspection. So there's three different levels. That will ultimately dictate what the cost is.
The next thing that's going to impact on the cost is where you choose to have this done. So, whether that be at the manufacturers main dealer, whether it be at an independent garage, or you may go to a independent brand specialist. All three of them will have different prices, again, for the three different levels of service that we just discussed. Next, it will depend on the quality of the parts used. Now, what I mean here is that we have the choice of using genuine manufacturer parts at either of those three locations, whether that be main, dealer, independent or a independent specialist.
We can use what's called OE stamped, which means that these are original equipment stamped. They just don't have the manufacturer stamp on them. Then we just have generic parts, the quality will start at the top where you know if you're buying a product that has the manufacturer stamp on it, that that is the best product for that car. The OE stamp is the next one down and then the generic parts would be lesser and price will follow in that order as well. It will come down to your individual budget on what you want to spend, really. And it's kind of putting the question back to you, how much is a car service? Well, it really depends how much you want to spend.
My final two points are, first is the quality of the engine oil that is used because there are different grades and different specifications. So, it depends which grade of oil the service centre is using. The quality of oil that they are using, will dictate on the price of that. And finally then, it will just depend on your location. So, as anything, the cost of a service in London is going to be different to the cost of a service in Glasgow. It's going to be completely different.
